Agrivert have appointed Kirk Environmental to provide five 4,500m3 concrete digestion tanks for Oxfordshire County Council - at what will be the one of UK’s first large-scale AD facilities to be purpose-built for a local authority.

A new report from the London Assembly reveals that London’s rubbish could be used to generate electricity for up to two million homes and heat for up to 625,000 homes. The capital produces about 22 million tonnes of waste per year, including enough waste thrown out by Londoners to fill Canary Wharf tower every eight days. Most of this waste is taken outside of London and buried in landfill sites, but this is no longer sustainable.

Under the direction of the Japanese government, Aerosol Industry Association and Japan Waste Management Association held a contest from June 2006 to March 2008 to find the most efficient way to recycle aerosol cans, an ongoing concern for community officials there. Americans are throwing away less and recycling more. According to a nationwide survey conducted by Mode Products, 77 percent of American households recycle, and 50 percent are recycling more than they did two years ago. And, when looking to 2009 and beyond, 69 percent of households are likely to recycle more.

Dairy UK has launched a benchmarking initiative that should help to make the dairy sector even greener. Using a proprietary ‘benchmarking tool’, Dairy UK members will be able to record their performance on key environmental indicators and compare it with their peers. Information on energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, packaging and waste will all be captured.
