Tyre recycling companies Dunweedin' and PPP Group, are working in partnership to produce the Dunweedin' range of eco-friendly gardening solutions for the Irish market. The range of garden products is made from 100 per cent recycled tyres.

Under licence for Dunweedin', PPP will produce, package and distribute the recycled lawn care and garden mulch in a new factory designed especially to handle the innovative products.

Dunweedin' director, Bob Jones, said: "We are looking forward to a successful working partnership with PPP Group. Dunweedin' has already established itself as the leading company of its kind in England with a client base including DIY chains, leading garden centres, councils, schools and leading football and golf clubs. Now we are looking to develop the brand by extending our supply network across Ireland."

PPP, based in Ballymena, received a £50,000 development loan from Michelin to build the new plant. The funding from the French tyre giant, secured through a small-business scheme introduced in the UK in 2003, is part of Michelin's company-wide venture to reduce energy consumption costs across its plants by a fifth and cut industrial waste to zero.

The plant means PPP will be able to take tyres from a nearby Michelin plant, put them through a patented process, turning them into Dunweedin's range of recycled products which include rubber crumb for soil improvement, garden mulches and play surfaces.

The partnership will allow Dunweedin' to increase on the 1.5m tyres it already recycles every year from its base in Cheshire and help reduce the estimated 50m tyres discarded annually by British motorists - enough to stretch from London to Sydney.

The opening of the factory in Ireland marks the start of an exciting period for the recycling specialists. After recently featuring in a garden designed by BBC Gardeners' World presenter Toby Buckland and helping create a specially-designed play area at the Cheshire County Show, Dunweedin' is now set to showcase its products in garden designs at the Hampton Court Palace and RHS Tatton Park Flower Shows. The company also has the backing of celebrity horticulturalist Kim Wilde who has been a keen supporter of Dunweedin' for many years.
