With consumer awareness about mobile phone recycling at an all time high, Boots UK believes that there is an opportunity to take advantage of this and introduce the country’s first multi-product recycling programme.

Boots UK has announced that it will extend its national recycling campaign to include a wider range of consumer electronic products that customers can exchange for up to 5,000 Advantage Card points to spend on anything in-store. Following the success of its mobile phone and inkjet cartridge Recycling Appeal launched in June 2008 in conjunction with Redeem Plc, Boots UK has decided to include more products to benefit its customers further. The products that can now be recycled include digital cameras, MP3 players and satellite navigation systems.

The campaign also raises money for two of Boots UK’s chosen charities - Breast Cancer Care and The Eve Appeal. For every qualifying mobile phone handed in, Boots donated £1 to charity, with an additional 28 per cent being generated from Gift Aid.

As an added incentive Boots UK is running a promotional code throughout the whole of October. Customers can receive an additional 200 Advantage Card Points for all listed devices by simply entering the code “kiosk3” when registering items on the Boots website.

Robert Pearson from Boots UK said: “We are delighted that this appeal has had such success in the past year and we believe that customers will be keen to take advantage of the expanded appeal and the wide range of products that can now be recycled. Customers have shown unprecedented support for this campaign, which has been particularly popular in the current economic climate, receiving extra Boots Advantage Card points to spend in store. This has also had a great impact on the amount of money raised for our two very worthwhile partner charities, and we hope that this multi-product service will increase this further.”

Jamie Rae, chief executive of Redeem commented: “Boots UK’s Recycling Appeal continues to be a great success and demonstrates what an excellent incentive it provides for Advantage Card customers to earn points and help preserve the environment. We believe that being able to widen the number of products that can be recycled will encourage even more customers to participate and drive even more footfall into stores.”

It couldn’t be easier to swap your mobile for points. All customers have to do is visit the Boots website to value their phone and be sent a freepost envelope. The site will also tell customers if their printer cartridge is a qualifying model.

Customers can then pick up points from the Advantage Card Extra Offers kiosks in store.
