Space Solutions partners with Recycle Scotland to recycle over 100 tonnes of office furniture
Recycle Scotland evaluates unwanted furniture and then either recycles or donates it to deserving organisations who can put the items to good use. Space Solutions has partnered up with Recycle Scotland to promote the recycling charity’s work to clients using its purpose-built relocations and operations facility, The Hub, in Livingston, West Lothian.
The recycling service has been offered to Space Solutions customers for the past 18 months as part of the company’s move management work. The scheme to help salvage unwanted office furniture has been hailed a major success after more than 100 tonnes were recycled.
Recycle Scotland reuses furniture donated by businesses or finds other innovative ways to prevent furniture materials ending up in dumpsites. The two companies are ideally placed to work together as they have bases next door to one another at the Deans South West Industrial Estate in Livingston.
David Brunt, Space Solutions Business Manager at The Hub, said: “The service has gone down incredibly well – as the volume shows. As more and more companies become conscious of their environmental footprints, we see them asking us for advice as they want to dispose of materials in a non-hazardous way. It’s great that we’ve been able to give Recycle Scotland more than 100 tonnes to process because that’s 100 tonnes that otherwise may have ended up on rubbish heaps and tips.”
Space Solutions is Scotland’s biggest independent expert in helping businesses manage change within the workplace. It operates UK-wide to design, build, fit out, refurbish and relocate modern and productive business environments.
As well as the new recycling service, The Hub provides product storage and a base from which furniture products are dispatched for delivery and installation. The Hub also features the UK’s first independent showroom for contract furniture suppliers and manufacturers. In its first 12 months of operation, The Hub has installed tens of thousands of workstations, desks and office chairs for companies across the country.
Recycle Scotland’s Ian Kennaway said the Space Solutions’ partnership had proved a huge success. He said: “The project has been fantastic so far. Space Solutions have been very active in promoting us to their clients, which is especially important given the current financial climate. The two services together make it a one stop shop for businesses when they move – their furniture is taken away for them, and it is good for the environment because it does not end up in landfill.
“The furniture goes to good use too. It was Space Solutions clients’ unwanted furniture that went to help kit out a gymnastics group’s new offices this summer. The Kingdom Gymnastics Group was set up for disadvantaged kids in Fife, but they would have been left without any office furniture if Space Solutions clients hadn’t donated desks and chairs to them. The group us a letter thanking us and saying they couldn’t have done it without us.
“The partnership between Space Solutions and Recycle Scotland has had a great start and we are looking forward to seeing that continue in the future.”
