Grantham Industries invests in a new metal recycling centre in Lincolnshire
Grantham Industries in Lincolnshire, which owns GBM Demolition, has invested £2 million in a new metal recycling centre, at a 15-acre site in Caistor, which is the largest facility of its kind in the county.
By expanding into metal recycling Grantham Industries hopes to increase its stake in the recycling and waste management sector locally and nationally. GBM Demolition customers are also set to benefit from the new division as the management of metal waste in-house will result in a more comprehensive and cost-effective service. GBM Metal Recycling will collect, buy and process ferrous and non-ferrous metals on a national scale.
With the capability to hold over 120,000 vehicles and house thousands of tonnes of unwanted metal, the site can handle more quantities than any other facility in Lincolnshire. Everything from washing machines and batteries to lead and copper are accepted from both public and business customers with competitive on-the-spot rates offered. For businesses which create large amounts of surplus and scrap metals, the company also has skips and storage containers available which can be delivered and collected as required.
As the site is an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF), people can also bring their cars, vans and trucks to be disposed of by GBM Metal Recycling in line with Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) requirements and the Government’s End of Life Vehicle regulations.
All metal recycling is done in line with the ISO BS EN 14001:2004 International Standard, which was awarded to Grantham Industries recently in recognition of its commitment to protect and limit its impact on the environment.
Grantham Industries Sales Director Simon Grantham said of the new venture: “For us the acquisition of this new facility is a natural progression, adding to our already comprehensive demolition, plant hire, recycling and waste management services. It will give us the competitive edge, particularly in relation to our demolition arm as it means we can cut out the middle man by processing metal waste in-house. This will essentially mean we can offer a more cost-effective service to our customers.”
GBM Metal Recycling is being headed up by Director John Hall who has over 40 years’ experience in the scrap metal industry. He added: “GBM Metal Recycling is set to be Lincolnshire’s premier scrap metal processing facility. While a large proportion of the metals will be dealt with on site, we will also be exporting some scrap to India where it will be made into lower grade steels to be re-used in the construction industry. It demonstrates how waste products that no longer serve a purpose can be recycled into something useful.”
GBM Metal Recycling already has some large-scale contracts in place with international companies, despite opening less than four weeks ago.
